Building pollutant and asbestos surveys
Planning renovation, alterations or demolition? We identify the materials affected by the work, investigate relevant pollutants and provide a report to help prepare the project.
A survey tailored to your project
Often called an “asbestos survey”, a building pollutant survey can cover several substances. We define the necessary investigations based on the construction period, materials present and planned work. Some targeted surveys focus solely on asbestos.
The scope may cover the whole building or only the parts affected by the work. We work with owners, architects, property managers, businesses and public bodies, before work or to better understand a building during a purchase or sale.
Pollutants investigated
| Pollutant | Examples of relevant materials |
|---|---|
| Asbestos | Tile adhesives, renders and plaster, floor coverings, fibre cement, putties and insulation. |
| Lead | Old paints and anti-corrosion coatings. |
| PCBs | Some sealants, paints and old equipment. |
| PAHs | Tar-containing materials, some waterproofing products and adhesives. |
| HBCD | Some older polystyrene insulation. |
These examples guide the investigation. Identification relies on inspection and, depending on the material, measurements or laboratory analysis.
How the survey works
- Initial discussion — We clarify the building, planned work and areas to examine.
- Inspection — We identify and photograph materials, and take the necessary measurements or samples.
- Analysis — A specialist laboratory analyses the samples. We check and interpret the results.
- Report — You receive located results, their assessment and recommendations for preparing the work.
A report to plan the next steps
- The materials examined and their locations, on plans or by room.
- Results of the analyses and measurements performed.
- Risk assessment and precautions to take.
- Recommendations for remediation and waste management.
- Areas not examined and any further investigations required.
The report provides a basis for preparing a permit application where necessary, requesting remediation quotations and organising the sequence of work.
What about radon?
Radon diagnosis adds air measurements to material investigations. We can coordinate both visits. If radon mitigation is necessary, we propose and carry out the work.
Prepare your request
The address, approximate construction year, description of the work and any available plans or photographs help us prepare a suitable quotation.
